I'm a third-year Computer Science PhD student at the University of Chicago, advised by Professor Diana Franklin. Previously, I graduated with a dual degree in Computer Science and Psychology from the University of Arizona. Before college, I spent my life in a mountainous province in the Northwest region of Vietnam.
Many people have asked whether I’m from Hanoi or Ho Chi Minh City when I introduce that I’m from Vietnam. But I’m a mountain girl growing up in Lao Cai, a small city squeezed right next to the Vietnam-China border. It literally takes me 20 minutes to walk to China from my house. On Lunar New Year’s Eve, I could watch both Vietnam’s and China’s fireworks 🎆
You may have heard of Sa Pa with stunning rice terraces and the Fansipan mountain, but my hometown has more than just that. Come visit some less touristy places like Nghia Do (Bao Yen), Y Ty (Bat Xat), or Bac Ha. Believe me, your mind will be blown by the natural beauty, and you will truly be able to blend in a melting pot of cultures!!!
I love food. To me, one of the best thing about moving to the U.S. is being able to try many different cuisines from all over the world.
My love language is food. I cook and enjoy sharing Viet taste to my loved ones. But I’m never patient enough to write down my recipes…
